KUCHING, Jan 19: Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has reportedly submitted his resignation, amid rumours that he would assume the role of the eighth Sarawak Governor, succeeding Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.
News portal The Malaysian Insight today reported that it has sighted the purported resignation letter.
DayakDaily attempted to reach out to both Astana Negeri Sarawak and Wan Junaidi for confirmation and comments on this development. However, as of the time of the press, neither party could be reached.
Consequently, the appointment of Wan Junaidi as the eigth Sarawak Governor could not be verified.
Taib has been serving as the seventh Sarawak Governor since March 2014, following his resignation as the Sarawak Chief Minister after a tenure of almost 33 years.
The term for a Sarawak Governor lasts for four years, and in 2022, Taib’s tenure was extended for an additional two years, which is set to expire at the end of February this year. — DayakDaily
