KUCHING, Feb 26: Santubong MP Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar says it will be a new cabinet and not a Pakatan Harapan (PH) cabinet if Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad were to become the new prime minister.
He stressed that it would not be business as usual if Dr Mahathir were to be re-appointed as prime minister, as the government the latter forms would be a new one, not a Pakatan Harapan government.
“If the YDP Agong find that more than half of the total number of MPs, ie 222, in the Dewan Rakyat (parliament) support Dr Mahathir, then the YDP Agong based on his discretion under Article 40 of the Federal Constitution will appoint Dr Mahathir to be the prime minister.
“However, Dr Mahathir will not be the prime minister of PH but the prime minister of the cross section of MPs who threw their support to him.
“He will then select among those MPs in Dewan Rakyat to be ministers to form his cabinet. This list will be delivered to YDP Agong to be sworn in as ministers. After which officially, Tun Mahathir has his cabinet,” said Wan Junaidi.
He said Dr Mahathir will also decide on which MPs to become deputy ministers for various portfolios to complete his new administration.
“It will not be the PH administration,” stressed Wan Junaidi. —DayakDaily
