KUCHING, Nov 4: “I stepped down of my own will”, says Santubong incumbent Dato Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
Wan Junaidi said he had given the notice about this matter to Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is also Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) chairman, about three months ago to inform him of his intention to withdraw from contesting in the 15th General Election (GE15).
According to Wan Junaidi, he had met and spoken to the Premier, who said “it was up to you.”
“I kept to my word. Three days ago, I met with the Premier again, and I insisted that I would still stick with my decision, which is to withdraw.
“So I want to clarify that no Premier or any party told me to stop, nothing,” he told a press conference held at Kuching International Airport (KIA) VIP Terminal, here today.
Meanwhile, Wan Junaidi assured that he would fully support Dato Sri Nancy Shukri as Santubong MP candidate.
He said Nancy is not an outsider in Santubong as she was born there, at Kampung Panglima Seman.
“Her family is here. It is like the Malay saying ‘sirih pulang ke gagang’,” he added.
“I will help Nancy and am sure the three assemblyman there will also help her. What’s important is that we want to win,” he said. — DayakDaily
