Wan Junaidi stated in his acceptance speech that he is no stranger to parliamentary matters and that issues pertaining to the Malaysian Constitution have always been near and dear to his heart.
“Before my current appointment as the President of the Senate, I served as the Deputy Speaker of Dewan Rakyat, and I founded the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Caucus, with its Secretariat in Jakarta, and I was also the first President of the Caucus, as well as a member of various Parliamentary Committees.
“I have been serving the nation for over 56 years and I will continue to serve the nation as long as my services are needed.
“I have only been the President of the Senate for about one and half months, but my vision of implanting and realising the true interpretation of Independence Parliament and to ensure compliance with Constitutional provision, that is, the Cabinet is made accountable to Parliament,” he said.
According to the Asia Leadership Roundtable, the Asia Economic and Entrepreneurship Summit is held annually to discuss the strategic challenges facing Asia. It brings together government, business, and thought leaders to share ideas and insights.
“Organised by the KSI Strategic Institute for Asia Pacific together with the ASEAN Economic Club and China Daily Asia Pacific, this year the theme is ‘Powering and Future Proof Asia’ as Asia needs a great reset amidst growing geopolitical tensions and geostrategic challenges.
“Asia faces an increasingly uncertain and dangerous world. With a shift towards a multipolar world, Asia also needs to promote closer collaboration and partnership between government and business to accelerate sustainability and economic resilience. The pivot towards digitalization and green growth is another strategic challenge facing Asia. Yet this pivot opens up new opportunities.”
The summit featured two engaging sessions. ‘The Green Reset: Future Ready Asia – Addressing Geostrategic and Global Political Challenges and Shifts to Digital, Green, and Innovation-Led Growth’ delved into the pressing issues and opportunities for sustainable development in Asia. The second session, ‘Entrepreneurial and Business Leadership for a New Era’ explored the crucial role of entrepreneurship and effective leadership in navigating the changing landscape of business and the economy.
