Wall mural painting competition accepting entries from local artists, students

Creative individuals are invited to participate in the 'My City, My Home, Clean and Green' wall mural painting competition.

KUCHING, March 31: Local artists and university students in Kuching are invited to take part in a wall mural painting competition with a chance to win cash prizes totalling RM12,500.

Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd and MJC City Development Sdn Bhd in a joint statement today said the competition which is themed as ‘My City, My Home, Green and Clean’, is now open for registration, and is part of the three agenciesā€™ initiatives to improve and beautify the bin centres at MJC Batu Kawah Township as well as to promote messages of clean, healthy and sustainability living in urban Kuching.

According to MPP deputy chairman, who is also the competitionā€™s organising committee chairman Datoā€™ Ahmad Datoā€™ Sri Ibrahim, the competition aims to uplift and transform the image of the bin centres into clean and beautiful facilities for the public to use and appreciate.


ā€œWith that in mind, we are calling on all talented local artists, students and creative individuals to take part in this exciting competition.

ā€œWe look forward to seeing captivating mural designs that can help promote green and sustainable living in the city in line with the councilā€™s visions,ā€ he said.

He added through the beautification initiative, the residential and business communities in the surrounding area can be encouraged to use the facilities more responsibly and work together in keeping them clean and in good order at all times.

Terms and conditions for the mural painting competition.

The wall mural competition is open to individuals, local artists, college and university students aged 18-years-old and above, and they may enter as an individual or as a group with a maximum of five people.

Upon registration, participants must submit their proposed illustrations which shall be reviewed and shortlisted by a jury panel comprising of arts and design experts from Unimas, Swinburne University of Technology and an established local muralist.

The 1st prize winner will walk away with a RM3,000 cash prize, while second and third place will get a RM2,500 cash prize and RM1,500 cash prize, respectively.

A merit prize of RM1,000 will be given to two winners, including an appreciation prize of RM500 to seven units as well as certificates of participation, and 12 of the best designs will also be selected to qualify and proceed to actual on-site painting.

Interested individuals can register their participation by completing the contest form available on MPPā€™s and Trienekensā€™ websites and Facebook pages.
