KOTA SAMARAHAN, Feb 19: Torrents of water are seen gushing through the street upon entering Kampung Merdang Lumut after flash flooding hit the village due to continuous heavy downpour since evening yesterday.
From several videos shared by a resident Milah Munang, some houses can be seen inundated in about two feet of waters while some parts of the village were inaccessible as high amounts of water running into the area has turned roads into streams.
Milah shared that water began to rise at about 6am today but inflow of water is yet to recede as at 11.30am.
“It seems that flood water continue to rise and villagers are on alert. I think there are some 20 homes in the village affected by the flash flood.
“As for my house, only the car porch area is affected because it is located at a slightly higher area,” she told DayakDaily when contacted today.
Meanwhile, Samarindah is one of the worst-hit areas with flood waters reaching waist-high according to a footage shared in a group chat shared with DayakDaily.
In the footage, a car was stuck in a middle of the road before submerging as flood water rose.
Residents of Kuching and Samarahan experienced a chaotic morning today as many urban and sub-urban areas have been affected by flash floods including Unigarden, Jalan Dato Mohd Musa, Hui Sing Commercial Centre, Jalan Laksamana, Kampung Sinar Budi, Jalan Kuap, Mile 9. — DayakDaily
