KUCHING, May 27: Veteran journalist James Alexander Ritchie was awarded the National Journalists’ Day (Hawana) 2024 Award.

With 50 years of experience under his belt, James, 74, has also been accorded various awards, namely the prestigious Ang Lai Soon Gold Award and Shell Kenyalang Gold Award, including the AZAM Press Award.

The award was presented by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the Hawana 2024 Summit at Waterfront Hotel here today.

Meanwhile, the Kuching Division Journalist Association (KDJA) also received the Hawana 2024 Award to recognise the association for its contributions. The award was presented to its president, Ronnie Teo Teck Wei.

Apart from that, See Hua Daily News journalist Chia Kan Nyuk, 53, received the Tabung Kasih@Hawana fund in Sarawak. She has been battling breast cancer since July 2023.

Additionally, Alice Wee Siok Lian, Johnny Lok Kee Kong, Kadir Dikoh, Rajah Murugaiah Meyappan, Sulok Tawie, William Cornelius Chan Khun Neng, and Zulazhar Sheblee were recipients of the Premier Sarawak Special Appreciation Award. — DayakDaily
