KUCHING, June 13: Over 100 children attending the kindergarten on the Malihah Methodist Church’s grounds here are at risk due to a deteriorating fence damaged by river erosion, which requires immediate attention, said Michael Kong Feng Nian.

Kong, who is special assistant to Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak Chong Chieng Jen, visited Malihah Methodist Church following a request for assistance from the church elders.

“Upon my arrival, I was shown the church’s fence, which was on the verge of collapsing. It became evident that the nearby river had been steadily eroding the riverbank, directly affecting the stability of the church’s fence.

“Although Malihah Methodist Church does not fall within our Stampin parliamentary constituency, I am committed to exploring all possible avenues to assist this church.

“In politics, our duty extends beyond the boundaries of our constituencies; it is our responsibility to help wherever we can, ensuring the safety and welfare of our broader community,” he said in a press statement.

Kong also stated that he will work closely with the relevant authorities and stakeholders to address the urgent matter.

“Ensuring the safety of the church’s premises, especially for the young children who attend the kindergarten, is a priority.

“We will seek to find both immediate and long-term solutions to stabilise the riverbank and repair the fence,” he added. — DayakDaily
