MIRI, April 24: United People’s Party (UPP) Pujut branch has expressed their support for Barisan Nasional-Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (BN-SUPP) candidate for Miri Datuk Sebastian Ting.

In a press conference today, UPP Pujut chairman, Bruce Chai at the branch’s office here congratulated Ting on the latter’s nomination, and said that they are giving their fullest support to Ting.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Abdul Rahman Johari Abang Openg announced the state BN candidate list for the 14th general election (GE14) earlier this morning in Kuching.

“We wish to reiterate our fullest support for Datuk Sebastian Ting,…hence, and are hoping that UPP and SUPP cooperation would complement one another,” Chai said, adding that UPP-SUPP cooperation should be seen as a strength rather than competition.

“Services that we have can complement SUPP for this coming election. Besides, we are in the same boat and have the same captain,” he said.

When asked on odds of Ting winning the seat, Chai said it was premature to talk of the possibility of winning.

“Under the leadership of Abang Johari, we have seen many revolutions and changes in various aspects. I do believe with this positive change, the rakyat will benefit from it,” he said.

“We pledge that UPP Pujut branch’s Mobile Action Tean (MAT) programme will continue to move on the ground and continue to serve the community of Miri…. Over the next two weeks during this campaigning period we will continue with two pre-scheduled locations that is at restaurant Asenika Saberkas (April 28 from 4pm to 7pm) and at Taman Bulatan on May 6 at 4pm to 7pm,” he added.

Chai also congratulated Datuk Andrew Wong Kee Yew, son of UPP president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, for his nomination to stand in Sibu.

Chai was also asked about Sibuti’s new face from BN-Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu for this coming election.

“I am very happy and glad that Lukanisman Awang Saun is chosen as the candidate for Sibuti because he has been around on the ground for years,” Chai said.
