Unimas student, 23, latest Covid-19 fatality in Sarawak

KUCHING, April 9: Sarawak has recorded one more Covid-19 death and six more positive cases as of noon today.

According to the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) Secretariat in a statement today, the latest fatality has brought the cumulative number of Covid-19 deaths in Sarawak to 13.

It disclosed that the latest fatality is a 23-year-old student from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) from Kota Samarahan. The parents of the deceased have also tested positive for Covid-19.


The deceased encountered breathing difficulties on March 30 and was admitted to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for treatment on the same day. The victim passed away today at 9:42am.

As for the six new Covid-19 positive cases in the state, five are being treated at SGH while one patient is at Bintulu Hospital.

The latest cases has brought the total number of Covid-19 case in Sarawak to 312.

SDMC also revealed Sarawak registered 141 new person-under-investigation (PUI) cases today.

Based on district and location, 100 cases are from Kuching, 12 from Samarahan, 10 from Miri, five from Saratok, five from Bintulu, three from Bau, two from Serian and one each from Simunjan, Sri Aman, Betong and Mukah.

With these new PUI cases, the cumulative number of PUI cases to date is 2,005.

SDMC noted that out of the 2,005 PUI cases, the results of 1,548 cases were negative while 145 PUI cases are awaiting laboratory test results. — DayakDaily
