KUCHING, Nov 21: A total of RM17 million has been approved under phase two of the ‘Sarawak Missionary School Fund Assistance for 2023’ for disbursement to 126 mission schools in Sarawak via Unit for Other Religions (Unifor).
According to Datu Buckland Bangik, Deputy Secretary to the Sarawak Government (Administration), this is the third year that the State government has provided financial assistance to missionary schools Statewide, with an allocation of up to RM20 million approved for the year 2023.
“The ‘Sarawak Missionary School Fund Assistance for 2023—Phase 1’ amounting to RM3 million has been donated to SMK St Teresa, Kuching on July 12, 2023 for the school’s multipurpose hall block reconstruction project as approved by YAB Premier of Sarawak (Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg),” he said during the ‘Sarawak Missionary School Fund Cheque Presentation Session for 2023 (Phase 2)’ held at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) complex here today.
Buckland was representing Deputy Premier of Sarawak Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also the minister-in-charge of Unifor, at the cheque presentation.
“The Advisor to the Mission Authority will receive a total of 126 fund aid cheques, which must be distributed to 126 Sarawak missionary schools before the cheques expire,” Buckland disclosed.
The following are the Mission Authorities: Anglican, Diocese of Kuching will receive 50 cheques amounting to RM6,746,080; Roman Catholic, Archdiocese of Kuching to receive 31 cheques amounting to RM4,182,520; Roman Catholic, Diocese of Sibu to receive 23 cheques amounting to RM3,103,160; Roman Catholic, Diocese of Miri to receive seven cheques amounting to RM944,440; Methodist, Sarawak Iban Annual Conference (SIAC) to receive eight cheques amounting to RM1,079,360; Methodist, Sarawak Chinese Annual Conference (SCAC) to receive seven cheques amounting to RM944,440. — DayakDaily
