KUCHING, Aug 27: The Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) has given the Sam San Kuet Bong Temple at Mile 7 a RM200,000 grant to repair its roof and stage.
According to a statement, Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap presented the grant to the temple committee chairman, Thian Ted Hin, during a ceremony held yesterday at the temple.
“7th Mile’s Sam San Kuet Bong Temple was rebuilt and completed in 1998. After 25 years, the temple roof was leaking, and the floor tiles of the compound were damaged and needed urgent repair.
“In 2022, the Temple Committee called for public donations. Under the leadership of chairman Thian Ted Hin, the main temple roof was repaired, the retaining wall reinforced and painted, the floor tiles of the compound were replaced, and the compound was cleared and beautified with new landscaping trees.”
The statement then emphasised that some parts of the temple’s roof and stage still require repair and reconstruction.
“Due to lack of funds, the Committee applied to Unifor for assistance with the letter of support from YB Wilfred Yap ADUN N12 Kota Sentosa.”
Among those witnessing the handover were Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Tan Kai, Temenggong Dato Tan Joo Phoi, Penghulu Lai Boon Kee, Kapitan Lee, former Batu Kawah assemblyman Datuk Alfred Yap, and other Committee members. — DayakDaily
