Unifor approves RM800,000 to elevate 4 chapels, churches in Lundu

KUCHING, Dec 11: The Sarawak government, through the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor), has approved a grant of RM800,000 to support development and maintenance projects for four houses of worship in Lundu under Phase 4/2024.

In a news report by Ukas, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas stated that each house of worship would receive RM200,000 from the allocation.

“The funds will be utilised for constructing a new multipurpose hall at St Michael’s Chapel in Kampung Paon, upgrading St Matthew’s Chapel in Kampung Titiakar, enhancing and equipping St Thomas’ Church in Kampung Sedaing, and extending the Lady Chapel and altar at St. Francis’ Church in Lundu,” he said.

The funding application was submitted by Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and underwent evaluation before being approved by Unifor.

Uggah, who is also Unifor chairman, disclosed this to reporters following a courtesy call on the Governor and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, at the Astana Negeri Sarawak today.

During the visit, four project approval cheques were presented.

Also present were Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang and Unifor director Dato Georgina Apphia Ngau. — DayakDaily
