KUCHING, Dec 30: Churches are allowed to hold services to usher in 2021 but the religious activities must end by 10pm on New Year Eve.

Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) director Richard Lon in a letter to Association of Churches in Sarawak chairman Archbishop Simon Poh yesterday said churches are allowed to hold prayers to welcome Year 2021.

Nonetheless, he pointed out that all religious activities must end by 10pm on December 31 as the standard operating procedure (SOP) for houses of worship for the prevention of Covid-19 is still applicable and must be practised.

Richard noted that Sarawak still records a number of daily positive cases of Covid-19.

Thus, he said, Unifor seeks the assistance of all churches in Sarawak to remain vigilant and to abide by the SOP set by the State Disaster Management Committee. — DayakDaily
