Unemployed, accused of killing grandaunt, fined RM2,000 for administrating drugs

KUCHING, Sept 28: A jobless man, who allegedly killed his grandaunt, was fined RM2,000 for administering drugs, Methamphetamine and Amphetamine in the Magistrate’s Court here today.

Magistrate Mohd Syukri Mokhtar sentenced Azizan Zainal, 27, to the fine of RM 2,000 or in default of three months’ imprisonment.

He was charged for administering Methamphetamine and  Amphetamine on August 17, 2019, and pleaded guilty to the charge before Mohd Syukri.

On Sept 21 this year, Azizan was arrested and remanded for seven days to facilitate police investigation into the murder case. His remand order expired today and he was charged for murder before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.

Zubaidah fixed October 28 for further mention pending the autopsy report of the deceased Dara Mohamad.

He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries a mandatory death sentence for allegedly murdering Dara.

The 66-year-old was found unconscious on a chair by her sister and was pronounced dead by Sarawak General Hospital paramedics on Sept 21.

The murder could have happened between 7.30pm on Sept 20 and 6.30am on Sept 21, at her house in Kampung Rampangi, Samariang. The murder allegedly occurred due to a misunderstanding between the deceased and the accused regarding money.

The accused was believed to have run away from the scene after he had committed the alleged murder and was found by his father on the morning of Sept 21.
