KUCHING, Oct 1: The Pakan-Ulu Kota Pakan Road Project Phase 3 and the replacement of seven temporary bridges with permanent concrete bridges (Phase 1) under the supervision of the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarikei Division were successfully completed in August 2025.
The new Ulu Kota Pakan Phase 3 stretch is a key link that will connect to the ongoing Ulu Paku–Ulu Kota Link Road Project and the Ulu Paku Road Upgrading Project in Betong District, which are scheduled for completion by 2027.
When fully completed, the integrated road network will connect Pakan in Sarikei Division to Ulu Paku in Betong Division, significantly enhancing land connectivity between the two divisions.
In a post shared on its social media recently, JKR Sarawak said that the project not only raises road safety standards and ensures smoother traffic flow but also provides long-term convenience for local communities.
“With the new permanent bridges and improved road network, accessibility to interior areas has been greatly improved. This is expected to spur economic activities, open up new opportunities, and improve social development in the district,” JKR Sarawak added.
The infrastructure upgrades are part of the government’s wider efforts to expand rural connectivity, reduce travel time, and provide better access to essential services for communities in Sarikei and Betong. — DayakDaily
