KUCHING, Sept 4: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas expresses his deepest gratitude to donors from various entities for contributions worth RM28 million to SDMC in tackling Covid-19.

He said Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) had, throughout the two years of the pandemic, received various donations such as personal protection equipment (PPE), polymerase chain reaction (PCR) machines, and medical and health supplies.

“The private sector and business communities consisting of 35 donors donated a sum of RM16.7 million while the collection from various government departments and GLCs (government-linked companies) was RM11.16 million.

“NGOs (non-governmental organisations) also gave RM172,400 to the Sarawak disaster Covid-19 fund. Thank you very much to these kind donors.

“This is the spirit of Sarawakians,” said Uggah when attending the Northern Zone Covid-19 frontliners appreciation ceremony at a local hotel in Miri yesterday (Sept 3).

While Sarawak, including the whole of Malaysia, is transitioning into endemicity, Uggah urged all Sarawakians to remain vigilant against Covid-19.

He said, quoting Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham, that “a new Covid-19 wave could be on the horizon”.

Dr Noor Hisham said this at the 14th International Symposium of Health Sciences 2022 on Aug 25, adding that this observation was based on epidemiological development of Covid-19 in other countries. — DayakDaily
