SPAOH, May 21: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas has set his mind on developing education and economic activities in Bukit Saban as the next course of action.

On education, he said he had discussed with Rajang Teachers’ College director Dr Abang Ismail Abang Julhi, who is a local from Spaoh, to set up a team to help students in Bukit Saban excel in their studies.

“We want the next generation to be highly educated and can master new technologies.

“They will be the ones who will chart out and strategise even better and bring more development, progress and prosperity for Sarawak and us,” he said.

In terms of economy, he said by prioritising quantity and quality as well as with the assistance from Betong MP Datuk Robert Lawson Chuat, good returns can be expected.

Uggah, who is also Bukit Saban assemblyman, said modern agricultural food and handicraft production are among the income-generating activities that will be looked into.

“We must not forget the government is building an airport in Bebuling here to fly our products straight from the farm or factories to the markets.

“We will hold discussions this July to see how we can assist in increasing or improving their production and quality and how to pack their products properly for overseas markets,” he said when attending the Kampung Spaoh Hari Raya gathering here today.

Among those also present were Deputy Minister of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Mohammad Razi Sitam, political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak Dr Richard Rapu, Betong Resident Richard Abunawas, and Betong district officer Solfi Jebai. — DayakDaily
