KUCHING, May 21: If there was no internal sabotage in Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), Democratic Action Party’s (DAP) presence could have been reduced to zero in the 12th Sarawak Election (PRN12).

Raising this issue, Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has warned against election sabotage that will jeopardise the future of Sarawak.

“We must act in unison, all of us. We must have common objectives. Once the leadership has decided on the candidates, (we should give) all our support and not sabotage halfway, especially on the eve of the election.

“I am being honest (here) because that (sabotaging) will jeopardise our future. If you want (when disagreements arise), hold meetings earlier (to voice out, discuss and iron things out) but not at the last minute. Otherwise, the Opposition could be zero (wiped out during PRN12),” he said.

He highlighted this when officiating at the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) 25th Triennial Delegates Conference (TDC) 2022 held at the party’s headquarters today, attended by its top leadership as well as members.

Abang Johari emphasised that loyalty toward the party and unity is crucial, especially in times of war, where the interest of the party and people must come first, while personal interest should be set aside.

“I have gone through that process. I give priority to the rakyat first before our own interest because the people are more important than me,” he said.

With SUPP’s outstanding performance in the last State election by securing 13 Chinese-majority seats, Abang Johari was glad that the party is now strong and united, which will augur well for the future.

All the component parties under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), comprising SUPP, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), he added, will strengthen its unity and together they will defend Sarawak for the future of Sarwakians.

“As such, I hope for the upcoming GE (15th General Election), SUPP will win all the seats they will be contesting,” he said.
