Uggah: ‘Sarawak exports durian’ is a fact, not a fabrication

Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas

MIRI, July 13: Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas rubbishes the allegation that “Sarawak is exporting durian” is a fabrication of the Sarawak government.

He said some quarters have claimed that the Sarawak government was lying about durian export from Sarawak. To this, he clarified that it was not true.

“This year, we have exported 100 metric tonne of durians paste to China. We are here not to bluff the people.

“We have strategy, and our strategy is to go for big volume. We are selling it to China whereby we join venture with a Johor-based company and another one which is a local company,” he said.

Uggah, who is also Deputy Chief Minister said this at Sarawak Agriculture Department Appreciation Night held at Miri on Friday evening.

He said the Sarawak government under the Gabungan Parti Sarawak(GPS), has always acknowledged the importance of agriculture sector.

“Let us work together and transform Sarawak as the next exporter by 2030,” he said.

Apart from agriculture sector, Uggah said the government is also focusing on empowering the people and creating more community-based enterprises. — DayakDaily
