KUCHING, July 11: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas revealed that the councillor positions previously held by Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PBS) will be filled with appointees from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) ones.
He told reporters that the list of newly appointed councillors, including those who retained their posts, have been approved by the state cabinet and is to be submitted to the Governor to be gazetted.
“The councillors list has already been approved. It is to be presented to the Governor to be gazetted, and to take effect immediately,” he told reporters after the Persatuan Ketua Masyarakat dan Tuai Rumah Kaum Iban Daerah Kuching (Pemaik) thanksgiving dinner on Thursday (July 11).
When asked how many will be replaced, Uggah replied: “Quite a lot because we are replacing all those formerly held by PSB, the councilors appointed by PSB before. All those will be (replaced by) new faces.”
In relation to this, Uggah also said that he respects the decision of PSB’s former deputy president Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, who tendered his resignation from the party as reported earlier today.
“We respect his decision. That’s all,” he said.
Asked if Jerip had applied to join Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Uggah replied: “Not that I know of.
Meanwhile Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian who also attended the dinner refused to comment on Dr Jerip’s resignation, saying that he will come up with a statement tomorrow (July 12). — DayakDaily
