Man discovered motionless in airport massage chair

MIRI, July 11: A man was found motionless on a massage chair this afternoon at the departure hall of Miri Airport.

A team of paramedics from Miri Hospital rushed to scene after being alerted but the man was pronounced dead at 1.05pm.


The 38-year-old deceased was working as a cook in Singapore.

Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah confirmed the case when contacted this evening.

“The man, identifed as Niek Pick Huat from Bandar Baru Permyjaya, was supposed to fly to Singapore today, and while waiting to boarding the flight, he sat down on one of the massage chairs,” said Lim, adding that the deceased has a history of hypertension.

He said, prior to the discovery, eyewitnesses saw Niek sitting on the massage chair at the departure hall for nearly one hour, before an immigration officer noticed his motionless body slouching in the chair.

The deceased was later taken to Miri Hospital morgue.
