BETONG, June 5: “If we spot ‘anai-anai’ (termites), we will spray pesticides to make sure they don’t spread to other trees,” said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas in condemning the actions of hired writers belittling Sarawak’s efforts to catalyse the region’s progress.

Expressing dismay at those envious of Sarawak’s success resorting to unfair attacks, Uggah questioned: ‘They claim Sarawak is merely lucky. But if Sarawak is fortunate, why not Sabah or other states?’

Calling out these writers for their malicious intent to disrupt Sarawak, Uggah strongly condemned their actions, saying “We cannot accept this. Such detrimental behaviour must be banned and stopped.”

“Sarawak’s achievement so far has nothing to do with luck. Sarawak’s prosperity is the result of political stability, unity of the people, and the relentless hard work of Abang Johari who worked day and night,” he said when speaking at the ‘Ngabang Gawai to Betong Division’ event officiated at by Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan Sports Hall here today.

“The Premier is smarter than a lawyer. From reading the constitution, to studying areas with empurau and semah fish, and ensuring strategic planning for Sarawak’s interests and meeting the needs of the people, that is his work and this is the product of his effort, not luck or fortune,” Uggah said.

Having known and worked with Premier since 1978, Uggah praised his leadership as effective and visionary with compassion and commitment, loyal to the party, but with firmness and boldness.

“I learned from him who has taught me to be patient in all our endeavours.

“Sarawak’s achievement is not due to luck, but like planting Musang King trees, requires techniques and patience from sowing the seeds to ensuring it bears not just fruit but quality fruit,” he added.

Urging all Betong residents to ignore negative influences and witness Sarawak’s ongoing development, he called for their support for Abang Johari and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

“Stay united and give full support to Abang Johari. Sir (Abang Johari), we will not leave you alone. Anyone trying to disturb our Premier, we have many fighters here.

“Together, we will make sure your leadership will continue to bring prosperity, harmony and unity for a glorious Sarawak, aligning with Post-Covid Development Strategy’s (PCDS) vision and objectives towards 2030 with economic prosperity, social inclusivity and environmental sustainability,” he pledged.

The Premier’s wife Puan Sri Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sport Development Dato Gerald Rentap Jabu, and former Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang were among the distinguished guests present. — DayakDaily
