KUCHING, Dec 29: The Federal government will continue to provide compassionate aid of RM1,000 to each household affected by floods as well as RM2,500 to repair damaged homes.
Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah, Sarawak Affairs and Special Functions) Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong informed this during a press conference after paying a courtesy visit to the Civil Defence Force (APM) Sarawak Office at Sultan Iskandar Building here today.
“APM Sarawak is always ready to handle and to be mobilised for floods in the State which is expected to occur between January and March 2023.
“I have also been informed earlier by Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas on the possibility of flooding in Sarawak.
“With that, I have discussed with the APM Sarawak director to get feedback on the preparations of members to face the flood situation,” he said in a new report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas).
Ugak, who is also Hulu Rajang MP, expressed confidence that Sarawak has a strong committee in handling disasters in Sarawak.
He also emphasised that it is important for the Information Department to disseminate news and information related to the weather conditions and flood situations to the people.
