KUCHING, Aug 13: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Ja’afar is expected to attend the Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2024 opening ceremony this Saturday (Aug 17).
According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report, this was conveyed through a courtesy call from the Sukma 2024 committee at Astana Negeri today.
Accordin to the report, Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the purpose of the visit was to extend an invitation to Wan Junaidi and his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, to attend the opening ceremony.
“Our invitation was well received, and he (Wan Junaidi) has expressed interest in visiting the venues where certain sports events will be contested, including athletics, ten-pin bowling, and wushu,” he said.
Meanwhile, Abdul Karim also expressed happiness with the response from the public, who went to great lengths to secure tickets to the Sukma 2024 opening ceremony.
He also hoped that this year’s edition, with Sarawak being the host state, would be better than the previous one and implemented smoothly.
Also present during the courtesy visit were Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak, Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat; Deputy State Secretary and Sukma 2024 chief executive officer Datu Hii Chang Kee; and Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak permanent secretary, Morshidi Frederick. — DayakDaily
