TYT presents aid to the underprivileged at high tea

MIRI, Oct 13: The Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud presented gifts and cash aid to 100 underprivileged individuals during a high tea reception in conjunction with his 83rd birthday celebration.

The Head of State was accompanied by his wife Toh Puan Raghad Kurdi Taib at the afternoon tea at Miri Gymkhana Club.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and wife Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang were present amongst the state Cabinet members and other dignitaries.

Taib and Raghad arrived at the event around 9am and spent about two hours mingling with other guests before they proceeded to another programme, which was to open a special exhibition called “Dirgahayu Tuan Yang Terutama” at Miri Pustaka.

The exhibition, set up in light of the Taib’s birthday celebration, features rarely seen photos of the TYT arranged in chronological order, starting from the 1960s, when he was an assemblyman up to today, as Sarawak Governor.

The photos will be on display from today till Friday, Oct 18.

At the exhibition, Taib also launched a 346-page book entitled “The Pillar of Harmony” by Dato Jameson Ahip Nawie. — DayakDaily
