KUCHING, May 12: The Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, accompanied by his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, attended the State Banquet held in conjunction with the opening ceremony of the first meeting of the fifth term of the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) held at the Banquet Hall of the DUS Complex here on Monday (May 11).
According to the Malaysian Information Department (JaPen) Sarawak, among the highlights included a dance performance themed ‘Sarawak Maju Makmur’ by dancers from the Sarawak Arts Council, a special performance by the Sarawak State Symphony Orchestra (SONS) under the direction of music director Saiful Hamdan, as well as singing performances by Sarawak artistes including Dewi Liana Seriestha, Mal Imran, Spinney, Chien, and Mawat.
The closing performance, titled ‘Joget Kenangan Manis’, marked the conclusion of the event celebrating the first sitting of the fifth term, which will be held over eight days from May 11 to 20, 2026.
Also present were Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg; Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, and Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian; DUS Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar; Sabah Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Datuk Seri Panglima Kadzim M. Yahya; members of the DUS and their spouses; Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki; as well as other distinguished guests. — DayakDaily
