He said that at 5.30pm on May 8, police officers were conducting crime prevention patrol duties in Jalan Hui Sing when they attempted to stop a vehicle that was being driven suspiciously.

However, the driver refused to cooperate and attempted to flee. Following a chase, police managed to stop the vehicle, while two men—the driver and the front passenger—managed to escape, leaving behind a man in the rear passenger seat who was subsequently detained.

“An inspection of the vehicle used by the suspects found no illegal items. The suspect was then brought to the police station for further action.

“Further checks revealed that the detained suspect had no prior criminal record, and the urine screening test result was also negative,” he said.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant from carrying out duties.

If convicted, the offender may face imprisonment of up to two years, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both.

He also advised the public not to make any speculation regarding the incident that could disturb public order.
