MIRI, Oct 10: The organisers of the outdoor parade to mark Sarawak governor Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud’s 83rd birthday celebration this Saturday have backup plans in place just in case the weather proves to be uncooperative.

When asked if the parade would be re-located or shifted to other venue if it rains this coming Saturday, Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Talib Zulpilip disclosed preperations have been made but they have yet to decide.

“These few days, we are experiencing warm weather, and let’s keep our fingers crossed that weather during that day (Saturday) will not thwart the parade,” he said.

According to a weather forecast, Miri on Saturday is expected to reach 30 Celcius with a 50 per cent chance of rainfall.

Talib was here to witness the final full dress rehearsal for celebration this morning, with nearly 5,000 people including secondary school students involved in the march-past and braving the light rain.

A total 104 contingents took part in the full dress rehearsal which kicked off at 8am.

Also present were Deputy State Secretary Ik Pahon Joyik, Assistant Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Sebastian Ting, Assistant Minister for Women, Family and Childhood Development Rosey Yunus, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing Datu Dr Penguang Manggil and Miri Resident Mastapa Julaihi.
