Duo gets 5 years’ jail for drug possession, whipping for male accomplice

KUCHING, Oct 10: A security guard and a stall operator were sentenced to 5 years’ jail for drug possession, with an additional 10 stokes of the rotan for the former.

Abdul Hafiz Abdul Rahim, 20, from Kampung Kudei Baru, and Nur Suziela Hashim, 34, from Jalan Muhibbah, changed their plea and pled guilty to the charge before Sessions Court Judge Marutin Pagan.


The court had fixed today for trial of the case.

Abdul Hafiz was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment and given 10 strokes of the rotan, while Nur Suziela only received the jail sentence.

Judge Marutin ordered the duo to serve their jail sentences from the date of the arrest.

According to the charge sheet, they were found in possession of 35.89 grammes of Methamphetamine in a maroon coloured Myvi in front of Kedai Easy Mart 24 hours, Green Road, at about 9 pm on June 30, 2018.

A black plastic bag containing crystal-like ingredient, suspected to be Methamphetamine, was found in the car’s front compartment.

The chemist report confirmed that it was 35.89 grammes Methamphetamine.

They were charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 39A (2) of the same Act, and read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which carries a minimum of five years imprisonment and a minimum of 10 whippings, if convicted.
