MUKAH, Jan 17: Two tugboats docked along the riverbank near the Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (LKIM) Tanjung Manis port sustained damage after catching fire at midnight.
Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Tanjung Manis responded to the emergency at 12.01am today and swiftly mobilised a team of firefighters to the scene.
One tugboat suffered 80 per cent interior damage, while the other sustained minor damage of about 5 per cent.
Challenging conditions, including low tide, inaccessible routes, and muddy, swampy terrain, hampered efforts to reach the burning vessels.
Upon arrival, the operation commander directed personnel to cut through a wire fence to gain access to the site.
Firefighters then conducted a size-up and deployed a 1,000-foot hose line with a single nozzle, sourcing water from a hydrant and fire engine pump. They maneuvered through the muddy ground to reach and board the nearby ship’s deck.
Using a defensive firefighting strategy from outside the vessels, the team successfully contained and extinguished the blaze.
After confirming the site was secure with no remaining fire hazards, the operation concluded at 1.47am. — DayakDaily
