KUCHING, Sept 5: Police successfully apprehended two men in relation to a robbery case at 3.53am on Sept 2 in the toilet of a shopping mall at Jalan Tun Datuk Patinggi Haji Ahmad Zaidi Adruce.
According to a press release, Kuching district police acting chief Supt Merbin Lisa said the victim, a 24-year-old woman, was found by her boyfriend to be injured with her jewelry and mobile phone stolen.
Acting on the information, police arrested two 19-year-old local youths at the scene of the incident, where police also confiscated the following items from one of the suspects: a black shirt, a ring, two gold chains, and a branded handbag.
“Both suspects are remanded under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The first suspect will be remanded from Sept 4–9, while the second suspect will be remanded from Sept 5–10.
“A background check has shown that both suspects have no past criminal records, and their urine tests for drugs were negative,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery, which provides a prison sentence of up to 20 years and a fine or whipping if convicted.
Merbin also reminded the public not to spread false information about the case, as action can be taken under existing laws. — DayakDaily
