SIBU, Aug 8: Two taxi drivers learned the hard way not to fight over passengers after they were fined RM1,000 each or one month’s imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court here today.
Both accused pleaded guilty under Section 160 of the Penal Code for committing affray in a public place.
The law provides for a jail term of up to one year or a fine of up to RM1,000, or both, upon conviction.
According to the facts of the case, at about 8am on July 20 in front of a hotel along Jalan Market, a male taxi driver, Tong Chu Ping, 64, and a female taxi driver, Wong Mee Ling, 33, got into a fight over passengers.
Both used a stick to hit each other resulting in them sustaining head injuries.
After the incident, Tong lodged a police report followed by Wong. — DayakDaily
