KUCHING, July 15: Two Sarawak media practitioners are among 34 recipients nationwide who have received assistance under the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA X TM initiative since its launch in June this year.
According to TVS, the recipients are Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) photographer Jaed Tepus, 60 and TV3 regional correspondent Kadir Edison, 44 who received financial assistance to help ease the burden of medical treatment and family healthcare expenses.
Communications Ministry secretary general Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah presented the contribution to Jaed during a visit to his residence here today.
Jaed has been diagnosed with an intestinal tumour since February. He joined UKAS in 2023 after serving with the Sarawak Information Department from 2012 to 2023 and the National Film Department of Malaysia from 1993 to 2012.
Also present during the visit were Malaysian National News Agency (BERNAMA) chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin and BERNAMA chief of Management Services and Finance Sharifah Zaini Syed Zain.
In a separate visit, Nur-ul Afida presented a contribution to Kadir to help cover the medical expenses of his wife, who is undergoing treatment for diabetes and a lung infection. Kadir has served with Media Prima since 2015.
Tabung Kasih@HAWANA X TM is an initiative under Tabung Kasih@HAWANA funded through Telekom Malaysia’s (TM) corporate social responsibility (CSR) allocation to expand assistance to media practitioners in need.
Since the initiative began disbursing funds in June 2026, a total of 34 media practitioners nationwide have benefited.
Overall, Tabung Kasih@HAWANA, introduced by the Communications Ministry through BERNAMA in April 2023 has benefited about 800 media practitioners across the country. — DayakDaily
