Two suspects nabbed over live firecrackers incident in Miri

MIRI, Dec 24: Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) last night detained two local men for their alleged involvement in the throwing of ignited firecrackers at a toy shop at Pelita Commercial Centre on Sunday (Dec 22).

Miri deputy police chief Supt Sabri Zainol when contacted today disclosed the two men were arrested at two separate locations during an operation on Monday (Dec 23).


The first suspect was picked up somewhere in Permyjaya at 10.30pm, while the second suspect was nabbed around 11.30pm at Kampung Lereng Bukit.

Both men, aged 26 and 36 respectively, are currently detained at Miri Central police station (CPS) for questioning.

One of the suspect is believed to be the main culprit in the incident.

Police also seized a motorcycle helmet, one Nokia handphone, a pair of slippers, one long-sleeve T-shirt (blue and white colour) and denim shorts.

The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief.

On Sunday (Dec 22), the panel glass door at the toy shop’s main entrance was damaged after an unknown individual threw ignited firecrackers at it at around 3.15pm.

There were six shop workers inside the premises when the incident happened.

Several scorch marks could be seen at the entrance door following the incident. — DayakDaily
