Two students who went missing in jungle found

KAPIT, Jan 27: Two students who were reported missing after they went for a hike after bathing at Sungai Amang here this evening have been found.

Fire and Rescue Department deployed four firefighters from Kapit fire station to conduct a search and rescue (SAR) operation after receiving a distress call from their teacher at 7pm.

The victims, Darsyellinggi Saing, 21, and Lexwell Fartheo Isa Liman, 20, were last seen leaving the river after swimming with six others earlier.

The SAR operation covered a 2km radius area from the spot they were last seen.

“The first victim was found by his friends before the arrival of firefighters, while the second victim was saved by firefighters after being informed of his last known location.

“They could not find their way out of the jungle because it was already dark,” the department said in a statement.

Both victims were in stable condition and have been reunited with their family members. — DayakDaily
