KUCHING, Feb 3: Two cases of rabies have been reported this week, with one involving a stray dog at Jalan Demak and another involving a cat at Carina Estate in Jalan Stapok Utama.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng emphasised that a recent trend showed that rabies does not only affect dogs but also cats.

Reiterating the importance of responsible pet ownership, he urged pet owners to ensure their animals receive anti-rabies vaccinations.

“If you cherish your animals and your life, as well as that of your loved ones, getting them vaccinated is the right thing to do. It is similar to when we all have to get the Covid-19 vaccination,” he said during the ShallWeeTalk online session with the community today.

Furthermore, Wee highlighted that anti-rabies vaccinations are free of charge by the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) Sarawak.

Emphasising the need for heightened precautionary and prevention measures, he stressed that these measures are essential to avoid jeopardising people’s health and safety.

“Also, it is crucial to keep your pets within your house and compound as letting them roam freely outside can have repercussions on others,” he added. — DayakDaily
