KOTA SAMARAHAN, Jan 17: The construction of Airport Road by the Ministry of Works (MoW) and another road in Tambirat, Asajaya by the Sarawak government will ease traffic jams in the Samarahan area.

According to a report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS), Stakan assemblyman Datuk Hamzah Brahim explained that he had recently held a meeting with the Public Works Department (PWD), Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) and the agencies involved to reduce congestion in Samarahan, especially in Jalan Samarahan Expressway and Jalan Datuk Mohammad Musa.

He also urged the PWD to take serious action against contractors who failed to complete the Jalan Samarahan Expressway construction project according to the set schedule.

“As the people’s representative here, I continue to urge the PWD to take serious action against the contractor so that we can give priority to the wellbeing of the people of Stakan and the surrounding area.

“For Jalan Datuk Mohd Musa, their progress is ahead of schedule. So, God willing, in August next year, this road will be ready,” he said during a press conference after officiating at the symbolic handing over of licence and key to 32 stall owners at MPKS Uni Garden Food Court recently.

Commenting on the food court, Hamzah said it was an effort by MPKS to provide more conducive, safe and organised sites and stalls for traders around Samarahan to carry out business activities comfortably.

He added that such a business concept would attract the people around to attend or dine there and provide business opportunities to all traders in Samarahan.

Also present were MPKS chairman Dato Peter Minos, MPKS acting secretary Mirwan Abdul Karim and Uni Garden Food Court chairman Nur Suhaili Abdullah. ― DayakDaily
