Two new clusters identified in Pakan involving longhouses with total 78 Covid-19 cases confirmed

KUCHING, Sept 11: Two new community clusters have been identified in Pakan today involving longhouses near Sungai Sawa at Batu 3 and Nansang Wak, with a total of 78 positive Covid-19 cases confirmed so far.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily update on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, reported that the Sungai Sawa Cluster has 37 positive cases involving the residents of a longhouse located near Sungai Sawa area along Batu 3 of Jalan Pakan.

A total of 74 individuals have been screened, out of which 37 have tested negative for the virus with no lab results pending.


The Nansang Wak Cluster has 41 cases involving the residents of a longhouse located at Nansang Wak.

A total of 102 individuals have been screened, whereby 61 have tested negative, with no lab results pending.

All the positive cases from the two clusters have been referred to either Sarikei Hospital or the Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centres (PKRCs) Sarikei or Meradong for treatment and isolation.

SDMC has also today declared the end of six clusters namely the Lunyin Cluster in Telang Usan, Tembok Miri Cluster in Miri, KINDA KM18 Cluster in Bintulu, Jalan Airport Cluster in Kuching, Kampung Sebat Melayu Cluster in Lundu and Jalan Datu Abang Abdul Rahim Cluster in Kuching, after no new local cases were reported in the last 28 days.

With that, the number of active clusters in Sarawak has decreased to 137, out of which 16 clusters have recorded an increase in new infections with a total of 251 cases contributing to today’s caseload of 3,743 cases.

They are the Galaxy Cluster in Bintulu which added 58 more cases, Bungey 2 Cluster in Betong (51 cases); Sawit Cluster in Beluru (36 cases); Long Urun Cluster in Belaga and Mapu Cluster in Tebedu (26 cases each); Pinang Jawa Cluster in Kuching (14 cases); KM20 Jalan Betong Cluster in Betong (12 cases); Kampung Sikog Cluster in Kuching (7 cases); Opar Cluster in (6 cases); Jalan Usaha Jaya Dua Cluster in Kuching (4 cases); Tanjong Kobong Cluster in and Annah Rais Cluster in Kuching (3 cases each); Kampung Dangak Cluster in Kuching (2 cases); while the Kampung Simpok Cluster in Serian, Menuang Baru Cluster in Limbang and Tanah Mawang Cluster added one case each.

As of today, 35 districts in Sarawak are classified as Covid-19 red zones (above 40 cases), while only four remain in the yellow zone (less than 20 cases) and one in the orange zone (below 40 cases).

Currently, there are no districts classified as green zones with zero Covid-19 cases. ā€” DayakDaily
