KUCHING, May 20: Two locals, aged 25 and 42, were arrested by the police while inside a vehicle in a carpark in front of Queen’s Court at Jalan Wan Alwi yesterday.
In a statement, acting Kuching police chief Supt Merbin Lisa revealed the arrests took place at 10.45am following a public tip-off.
“After conducting an inspection on the 42-year old suspect, who was sitting in the driver’s seat of the compact vehicle, the police found a small box inside a bag which was held by the suspect containing 14 transparent plastic packets and two red-coloured transparent packets containing a total of 32.52 grams of methamphetamine with an estimated value of RM3,252,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 39A(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Merbin also revealed that the second suspect who was sitting next to the driver, was also holding drugs in his hand.
“Three transparent plastic packets containing 6.42 grammes of methamphetamine with an estimated value of RM642 were seized from the suspect, and the case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.
Merbin said both suspects had tested positive for methamphetamine, and the first suspect has one previous crime record under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952, while the second suspect has no previous record.
“Both suspects got their supply from a local dealer in Kuching through a bank-in process. Further action is being taken to track down the supplier, and both suspects were remanded for seven days starting May 20 until May 27,” he added. — DayakDaily
