Kuching District Police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the suspect was found in possession of 5.10 grammes of suspected syabu, with an estimated street value of RM561.

“The suspect also tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine,” he said in a statement yesterday (July 9), adding that the man has no prior record of drug offences.

The suspect has been remanded for three days until July 12 for further investigation.

The drug seized from a 39-year-old man during a police raid in Tabuan Dusun on July 8, 2025.

He is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a jail sentence of two to five years and between three and nine strokes of the cane upon conviction.

In the second raid, conducted at about 8.10pm the same day, the NCID arrested a 46-year-old man at a house in Stampin Baru.

The suspect was found with 70.50 grammes of suspected syabu valued at RM7,750.

“He too tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine and has no previous record,” said Alexson.

The suspect has been remanded for five days until July 14.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for the death penalty or life imprisonment, and if not sentenced to death, a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane.

Alexson urged the public to continue cooperating with the police by reporting any drug-related activities in their communities.

“Public information is crucial in helping us curb and combat the menace of drug trafficking and abuse,” he said. — DayakDaily
