KUCHING, July 11: A motorcycle rider and pillion passenger were killed in an accident that occurred at Jalan Skim B Bintangor at 4am today.
According to Meradong Police Chief, DSP Tansli Mering, the accident involved a car and a motorcycle.
“A preliminary investigation revealed that the accident occurred when the car—which was coming from Sarikei to Jalan KJD—crashed with the motorcycle,” he said in a statement.
He elaborated that the motorcycle rider and pillion passenger were believed to have been involved in an earlier accident and were lying on the road before being hit by the car.
It was also noted that the accident scene had inadequate street lighting, resulting in limited visibility.
The rider and pillion passenger were pronounced dead by personnel from the Sarikei Hospital, while the car’s driver was unharmed.
The case is still under investigation and has been classified under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Witnesses to the accident are urged to come forward by contacting the Meradong District Police Headquarters (IPD) at 084-693222.
At the same time, Tansli also urged road users to practice caution when driving, especially at night, and to avoid driving if they are feeling drowsy or are under the influence of alcohol. — DayakDaily
