Two journos injured while covering news in Miri

MIRI Oct 6: Two reporters with two local daily landed in Miri Hospital on Friday while on duty.

In the first episode that happened around 12.30pm, a male reporter in his 30s was punched multiple times by a stranger who attempted to stop him from taking pictures of an accident scene in Piasau.

The reporter had to seek treatment at the hospital for his injuries, including to his lips.


The second episode happened at about 3pm. The victim, a female reporter in her 20s, was on her way back after covering a function near the Miri Waterfront when she was hit by a car at a zebra crossing.

She sustained bodily injuries and were taken by passers-by to the hospital.

Commenting on the assault case, Northern Sarawak Journalists Association (NSJA) president Andy Jong urged all parties to respect one another at all times.

“Members of the public must understand and respect the job of reporters. They are just carrying out their duties,” he said in a statement today, adding that the violent act should not have happened.

Both reporters have since lodged separate police reports. — DayakDaily
