LUNDU, Dec 12: Two Indonesian workers sustained first-degree burns after a fire engulfed a six-door workers’ quarters in a plantation here last night (Dec 11).
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Lundu responded to the emergency at 6.45pm and immediately dispatched a team of firefighters to the scene.
The fire completely destroyed the workers’ quarters, which housed three local residents and 11 Indonesians, including the two injured victims.
A 22-year-old male victim suffered burns on his right leg and back, while a 20-year-old sustained burns on both legs and experienced breathing difficulties.
Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) crew provided first aid to the victims.
Firefighters successfully contained the fire by 9pm. After ensuring there were no remaining sources of ignition and confirming the safety of the site, the operation concluded at 10.20pm.
The cause of the fire and the extent of the losses are still under investigation. — DayakDaily
