Two energy companies from China want to invest over RM10 billion in Sarawak

KUCHING, July 24: Two energy companies from China have expressed their intention to invest in the development of green energy sources in Sarawak.

According to a report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Shanghai Electric Malaysia director Zhang Xiaohui said his company and China Three Gorges International Limited started establishing a foothold in Sarawak 10 years ago.

According to him, the experience and success in working with companies in Sarawak have given them the confidence to invest more.

“At this point we believe that under the leadership of the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, the State will become a green energy hub so we would like to extend our support.

“So we from China Three Gorges and Shanghai Electric want to participate in this green energy development and we plan to invest more than RM10 billion in Sarawak,” he told reporters after paying a courtesy call on Abang Johari at the latter’s office in Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.

Earlier, Abang Johari also received a courtesy visit from Mubadala Energy led by its president Khalfan Al Mansoori and Head of External Relations & Communications, Varian Ignatius.

Also present were Sarawak Minister of Utility and Telecommunication (MUT) Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, Shanghai Electric Power T&D (M) Sdn Bhd president Shao Jian Ming, vice president Yang Xing Hai, and Shanghai Electric Malaysia chairman Chen Ping. — DayakDaily
