KANOWIT, May 4: Two centenarians are among the 210 senior citizens who will receive their Covid-19 vaccinations on May 8 at the Kanowit District Council office.

The Kanowit District Health Office had scheduled the duo, Paong Kantan and Glang Mong, to be jabbed at 8am.

The other recipients are aged between 76 to 99.

In a Facebook post, the district urged all 210 recipients who had been shortlisted for this phase of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme to contact Dr Lim Yuan Qi via telephone at 01110361668.

Scheduled vaccine recipient Datin Francisca Sadai Udong, 85, is of the opinion that most residents of the town practised healthy lifestyles which enables them to have longer life spans.

“During my younger days, I was a paddy farmer and a rubber tapper. I only eat fish and vegetable and less of chicken,” she said.

Francisca’s husband, the late Datuk Francis Umpau, was the Land Minister in 1965 when Stephen Kalong Ningkan was the first chief minister of the state.

She had six children—five boys and one girl—and 13 grandchildren with Francis. Francisca remarried more than 10 years ago.

Asked about her vaccination, she replied that she was ready for it at 10am on Saturday.

“I will be going there on a wheelchair with my husband. I have high blood pressure, diabetes, gout and poor eyesight. Due to poor health, it is good that I have been selected for the vaccine,” she said.

She revealed a resident of her longhouse passed away due to Covid-19 a few weeks ago.

“With one death from the virus, we are all very anxious to be vaccinated to protect us from the virus,” she said. — DayakDaily
