KUCHING, Nov 24: TV Sarawak (TVS) has clarified that the alleged exclusion of the carol ‘O Holy Night’ from an Christmas programme was “a miscommunication among the parties involved”.
TVS and Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) in a joint statement today said it is imperative to highlight that the organisers had no intention of excluding the said song from the programme, and were in fact working to include the said song and are diligently preparing all the necessary elements for its performance.
“The main objective of this programme is to create a Christmas Carol-themed musical event, featuring the participation of 1,500 individuals.
“The aim is to showcase the essence of unity among Sarawak’s multi-racial diversity, embracing differences in race, religion, and culture,” it said.
The Sarawak-based television station also assures that production of the programme, which is scheduled for Dec 3, will proceed as planned and will be broadcasted on TVS on Dec 23.
“Your understanding and support are highly appreciated as we strive to deliver an event that not only celebrates the spirit of Christmas but also emphasises the unity within Sarawak’s rich and diverse community,” it added.
Earlier today, the Association of Churches in Sarawak (ACS) issued a statement, saying that it would withdraw from the Christmas event after the organiser had rejected their request to change the song ‘Jingle Bell Rock’ to ‘O Holy Night’. — DayakDaily
