Tuak served in kettles and festive fun, Tiong humours netizens with longhouse antics

KUCHING, Jan 3: Federal Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MOTAC), Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, humoured netizens about the modern way of serving tuak during the Christmas and New Year festive period.

On his official Facebook page today, Tiong, who is also the Bintulu MP, shared photos from his visit to Rh Utat Ak Berandak, an Iban longhouse in the interior of Sarawak.

Bala wanita diatu enda nyadung tuak ngena botol agi, nyau ngena ketel. Pening aku. [Our women nowadays no longer serve tuak from a bottle but instead from a kettle. This makes my head dizzy],” he wrote.

Despite the amusing situation, he admitted that he had a wonderful time and received a warm welcome during the ‘ngabang’ event at the longhouse, which was part of the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Several netizens commented on his Facebook post with amusing remarks, one of which said, “Enda ngena cawan agik nyu ngena mangkuk [We are not using cups anymore, we use bowls (to drink)]”.

Another netizen commented, “YB Tiong is really ‘steady’ and ‘sporting’ because he won’t admit defeat when the women are serving him tuak.”
