KUCHING, Aug 13: It is essential for tuai rumah (longhouse headman) to possess academic qualifications and high credibility, said Bukit Begunan assemblyman Datuk Mong Dagang.

According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today, Mong said it is necessary because the duty of a tuai rumah is challenging nowadays and requires the usage of technology to be well informed about what’s going on.

He said the responsibility and trust given as the head of a longhouse are not as easy as it seems, and they must be aware of current issues.

Mong said this when attending a thanksgiving ceremony held in conjunction with the appointment of Tuai Rumah Mathew Ronnie in Selepong Kunang in Sri Aman yesterday (Aug 12).

Meanwhile, during the ceremony, Mong handed over rural transformation programme (RTP) project allocations for the Jalan Kubur Selepong project (RM50,000), repair works for Jalan Rh Mathew in Selepong Kunang (RM100,000), repair works for Jalan Rh Stephen in Selepong Brangan (RM50,000), and to build a new storage house for the Rh Mathew Women’s Bureau (RM30,000).

He also presented a minor rural project (MRP) grant of RM8,000 to the village security and development committee (JKKK) of Rh Mathew and another RM4,000 to its Women’s Bureau. — DayakDaily
