LAWAS, July 16: Staff of Trusan community hall vaccination centre (PPV) had to pack up and close early yesterday to give way for the facility to be converted into a temporary evacuation centre to house residents affected by floods.

According to Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) in a news report, the Trusan community hall PPV was only able to operate for half a day before it had to be transformed into a flood evacuation centre.

A total of 103 flood victims from 21 families within the Trusan sub-district were relocated to the community hall and SJK Chung Hua Trusan.

The number of evacuees were only part of those affected from eight villages as some residents had decided to put up at the homes of relatives and friends living on higher ground in the village while waiting for the floodwaters to subside.

Among the villagers involved were from Kampung Gelapas Trusan, Kampung Seberang Kedai Trusan, Kampung Senduyun Trusan, Kampung Masjid Trusan, Kampung Tengah Trusan, Kampung Tanjung Trusan, Kampung Long Tukon Trusan and Kampung Lubok Abai.
